Tattoo Removal Guide

Laser tattoo removal — process, pricing and what results to expect.

Can a Tattoo Be Removed with Laser?

Yes. Modern Q-switched and picosecond laser technologies can remove tattoos. The process typically takes 6–15 sessions over 1–2 years, with 6–8 weeks between sessions for the body to clear pigment fragments.

How Laser Removal Works

The laser sends ultra-short pulses of high-intensity light into the skin. The energy shatters the ink particles into microscopic fragments. Your immune system then gradually removes these fragments through the lymphatic system over the following weeks.

Factors Affecting Results

  • Ink color: Black and dark blue clear fastest. Yellow, light green and pastel colors are most difficult.
  • Ink depth & density: Professional tattoos require more sessions than amateur work.
  • Skin tone: Lighter skin allows more aggressive treatment with fewer side effects.
  • Tattoo age: Older tattoos (10+ years) are easier to remove.
  • Body location: Areas with strong blood flow (chest, back) clear faster than extremities.
  • Health & lifestyle: Smoking slows healing by ~70%. Hydration and exercise help.

Pain & Recovery

Laser removal is described as feeling like a hot rubber band snap — generally more intense than getting the tattoo. Topical numbing cream is applied beforehand. Recovery is 7–14 days per session: redness, slight blistering and scabbing are normal.

Pricing (Estimates)

  • Small tattoo (5×5 cm): 800–1,500 TRY per session × 6–10 sessions
  • Medium (10×15 cm): 1,500–3,000 TRY per session × 8–12 sessions
  • Large (sleeve): 3,000–6,000+ TRY per session × 10–15 sessions

Alternatives to Removal

Before committing to full laser removal, consider:

  • Cover-up: A skilled artist can transform an unwanted tattoo into something new — usually 1–3 sessions, far less expensive than removal.
  • Refresh / touch-up: If the tattoo has faded, sometimes a refresh is all you need.
  • Lightening + cover-up: 3–4 laser sessions to fade, then a cover-up — best of both worlds.
