When to refresh, what to expect from the process, and signs your tattoo needs work.

When Touch-Up Is Needed

Look for: faded color (no longer vibrant), blurred lines (fine details unclear), uneven shading (some areas faded more), scarring effect (old work showing), simple aging (5-10 years passed).

Touch-Up vs Cover-Up

Touch-up: refreshes existing design (same composition, restored vibrancy). Cover-up: redesigns over old tattoo (different design entirely). Touch-up is much faster and cheaper.

Free First-Year Touch-Ups

Most quality studios (including ours) offer free touch-ups within the first year for any imperfections from initial healing. After year 1, touch-ups are standard pricing.

The Touch-Up Process

Consultation: artist assesses what needs work. Pricing: usually 30-50% of original cost. Session: 1-2 hours typically (faster than original). Healing: 2-3 weeks (less than original since deeper layers already toughened). Aftercare: same protocol as new tattoo.

Cost Estimates

Small tattoo refresh: 1,500-3,500 TRY. Medium tattoo: 3,500-6,500 TRY. Large piece: 6,500-15,000+ TRY. Complete sleeve refresh: 15,000-30,000 TRY.

When NOT to Touch Up

Tattoo is barely faded (could damage). Skin condition is poor (eczema, sunburn). Significant time has passed (10+ years) and design itself is dated — consider redesign instead. The result you want isn't achievable on existing work.
